I had a lovely conversation with my physical therapist this week about the unique ways I use my ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL to keep me organized with my business and life.

When I mentioned the ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL system to her, it peaked her interest enough to ask me about the details on how it worked.

I shared with her why I started using only ONE NOTEBOOK when I was traveling every month around the country holding training events. I had a ton of different notebooks and kept leaving one at home.  So, I decided that all I really needed was ONE NOTEBOOK and I taught myself a system how to keep everything in that ONE notebook.

Then I taught that system (and still do) to my coaching clients and they are always so thankful they have a system using the ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL where they write down everything they need to remember every day, and nothing gets lost or buried on their desk.

Today, I want to share with you 7 UNIQUE ways I use the ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL system.

#1.  USING A DOT-GRID NOTEBOOK.  I’m obsessed with a dotted notebook.  It keeps your handwriting neat and readable.  It’s simple to draw a straight line without having a ruler, you just follow the dots up and down and even on a diagonal.  Even my doodles look neat and tidy.  I’m a doodler of flowers, vines and leaves.

Basically dot-grid paper helps you keep your writing perfectly aligned which I need because I tend to veer off in a curved line.

#2  DAILY AND WEEKLY CHECKLISTS.  I find a weekly checklist keeps me on track with my goals. I write down a list of  tasks each week and it helps me accomplish something each week. I take it one step further and transfer my list of actions to my Weekly Desktop Notepad and assign the tasks on the weekly to-do list to a specific day of the week.

If you’re inclined you can create a DAILY checklist in your ONE JOURNAL NOTEBOOK every day.  I teach my clients to write the day, date and year at the top of every page.  Dating your pages helps you find past notes and records.

Other unique lists I recommend for your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL are

  • Passwords
  • Birthdays
  • Books to read
  • Prospects
  • Coaching Clients
  • Projects
  • Blog ideas
  • You tube ideas

The list goes on…Lists and lists and more lists

#3  CREATE A JOURNALING ROUTINE.  Journaling helps you record your thoughts and experiences.    When I write them down in my ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL notebook, I feel organized and on track with things I want to get accomplished in the time I’ve allotted for them.  One of the routines I’ve established for myself is to write a quick gratitude statement in my ONE NOTEBOOK Journal at the end of day.

START A GRATITUDE PRACTICE BY WRITING DOWN 3 THINGS YOU’RE GRATEFUL FOR EVERY DAY.

#4  CREATE A MIND MAP FOR YOUR GOALS.  A mind map is a great way to visually organize your goals by drawing them in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL.  You begin with your central GOAL in mind and break it down into actionable tasks to achieve your goals.   Here’s an example I made for my coaching clients on Canva.  Mind mapping helps you brainstorm important actions to achieve your goals.  Here’s an example I made for my coaching clients on Canva.  Mind mapping helps you brainstorm important actions to achieve your goals.

#5  TRACK YOUR HABITS.    How often do you think to yourself, I should make this a HABIT!

Your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL is the perfect place to build new habits.

You simple draw a 21-day grid in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL and check off each day you achieve the task.  It’s a great visual to see and a great way to feel you accomplished something every time you check it off in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL.   Here’s a simple outline to track your first habit.

#6  TRY A BRAIN DUMP.  When there’s so much going in my mind. I know it is time to declutter.  One of the most effective ways to declutter your mind is to use an exercise called a BRAIN DUMP.  I use a brain dump when I’m creating new projects, setting specific goals and prioritizing tasks.

I think of the actions I need to do and how I’ll get them done, and then begin writing them down on a page in my ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL.  Sometimes, I  write the tasks on post it notes so I can move them around and prioritize what I want to get done first.

Bottom line, a brain dump is one of the best ways to declutter your mind and get you organized, and when you write it all down in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL it’s there for you to view time and again.

#7  A RECORD OF YOUR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS.  This is probably the most important and unique ways to use the ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL for me.   I use my journal for these reasons.

  • There are times when you know you had a great idea and you wrote it down in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL.
  • You look back at your weekly to-do lists and find one you completely missed.
  • You need to know what happened back on a certain date and you look at that date written at the top of your page in your ONE NOTEBOOK journal, that helps you remember the event of the day.
  • You wrote down a list of books to read and you make sure you transfer it to the new ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL so you keep reading books you love.
  • You wonder how you created the habit of journaling every day so you review your HABIT TRACKER that made it happen one year ago.
  • You review the affirmations you wrote in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL and keep a positive mindset
  • You remember a name someone gave you and you wrote it down in your ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL so you have a record.
  • You feel happy because every day you get to write in your journal, “Today, I am grateful for…”

The ONE NOTEBOOK JOURNAL is a record of your thoughts, your ideas and emotions.  It helps you get those ideas out of your head and down on paper.  I call it my BRAIN IN A NOTEBOOK.  The key is to always have that notebook with you wherever you go and you will find you have the right resources in your hands
