If you read my previous blog post, you learned how to “DISCOVER” a recruit prospect and now it’s time to “CONNECT” with her to share your opportunity.

Sounds simple?  You would think so, but I find many direct sellers miss ONE essential part in their quest to grow a strong team.  This is the step where you reach out to “connect” before offering your opportunity.

Have you ever met a recruit prospect at your party, or perhaps you met someone at a networking event and you clicked?   You enjoyed each other’s company.  You both had a lot in common  and you think to yourself this is someone you’d love to have on  your team.

You have gone through a process of “DISCOVERING” someone who maybe needs extra income, or wants to work flex hours, or just work from home.

This is where the “CONNECT” part comes into play.   By “CONNECT” I mean contacting her again to see if she’s available to meet with you either online or in person.

That’s your goal!   You want to CONNECT and see if she’s open to meeting with you for a further conversation.

THIS IS ONE STEP SO MANY PEOPLE MISS!

Many people go straight to the prospect & ask them to join!  That’s why they get so many “no’s” and think recruiting is so difficult

IT’S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE “CONNECT” PART IS ABOUT GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT EACH OTHER.

BUILD A FRIENDSHIP FIRST!

The “connect follow-up” is a simple text or message to ask her to get together for what I call a coffee chat conversation.

THIS “CONNECT” MUST BE DONE WITHIN 24-48 HOURS OF YOUR FIRST MEETING!

The reason for the quick turnaround time is she has just had an experience with you, and you are still on her mind, whether that was at your party, or you met her at a special event, when you connect within 24-48 hours she remembers that experience.

THIS QUICK CONNECT is simply  TO SET A TIME TO MEET FOR A CONVERSATION.

When you send a message to “CONNECT” you want to give her 2 reasons.

  • THE First reason, is to thank her for placing an order at the party and letting her know it’s on its way.
  • The second reason is that COMMONALITY you both had. Perhaps she mentioned she’s looking for extra income, or maybe she was someone who loved all your products, or maybe you both love the same type of books. Whatever the reasons you want to mention it.

Here’s a quick role play of how this would go…

“Hi Suzie.. It was so lovely to meet you at my party last Thursday.   Thank you so much for your order.  It’s on its way to you as we speak.  The other reason i wanted to connect with you is because in our conversations you mentioned you were looking to earn some extra income.  I’d love to get together  this week & explore some opportunities . We can meet on zoom or I’ll treat you to a latte at Starbucks.  Would Friday at 10, or Thursday at 2 work for you?”

NOTICE:  I’m nowhere asking her to join.  I’m simply asking her to make a decision to connect for a conversation.

THIS IS THE FLOW OF RECRUITING PROSPECTS.

  • You DISCOVER the person who is looking for an opportunity.
  • You CONNECT to set up a time to have a conversation.
  • These conversations become appointments on your calendar. They are what I call recruiting coffee chat conversations. And the more you connect & schedule these conversations the faster you will find yourself growing a strong team.

I also believe “NOW” – the second quarter of the year – is one of the best times of the year to recruit.   Learn more about this on  my You Tube Channel.
