Generating leads to capture new clients or customers is so important to growing your business.  Without new leads your business will stagnate.  Lack of leads is one of the biggest challenges for most entrepreneurs.  It is one of the most important actions I counsel my clients to work on consistently in their business every week.

At the same time, I find it one of the most inspiring and influential ways to grow your business because it’s all about making new friends and growing new relationships which leads to having new friends in your life.

Here’s how I generate new leads and make new friends in my business.  There are many other ways, but the following seven ways make me love being an entrepreneur and growing my business.

#1  Networking is connecting!   Networking events can be very beneficial in capturing new leads in your business.  This word of mouth connecting is the strongest form of getting a new lead because you are face-to-face meeting  people to build new relationships.  I recommend strongly that you join at least 1-2 networking groups where your meeting people at least once a week.   I have rules for networking and I recommend you write them down and memorize them.

  • Make eye contact. Don’t meet someone and let your eyes wander.  Keep focused on meeting the person in front of you.
  • Be the FIRST! Be the first to introduce yourself, be the first to out your hand, be the first to smile and say, “Nice to Meet you today.”
  • Ask questions about THEM!  When you ask questions about them they become interested in YOU!
  • Find the connection or commonality. When you have things in common the connection is stronger.
  • Be prepared with your Powerful Intro. Learn how to introduce yourself so people are interested in learning more about you and your business.
  • Be open to follow-up with an invite. Find a way to expand the connection with an invite for a coffee chat later and capture the lead.

I recommend Business Leads clubs, Chamber of Commerce, Book clubs, online communities. When you are consistent with networking and building strong relationships, you’re lead generation will grow fast because you’re connecting with people on a weekly basis.

#2   Build Referral Partners.  A great way to expand your leads is to collaborate with others in your niche.  I call this power partnering.   Find people who complement your type of business.

Story:   As a Fashion Stylist, I met a Financial Planner who asked me to team up with her at her investment seminars.  I would open her seminars showing women how to take TEN pieces of clothing and SAVE money per outfit, making over 30 outfits.  She then showed women how to INVEST those savings (and more) in her strategic investment programThis led to me capturing many new clients who signed up for my private styling session.

To GET referrals you have to GIVE referrals.

Develop a culture of giving referrals to others.  Become known as the person who connects people together.  Think about who will benefit from having a referral from you.  Then people will reciprocate.  They will LOVE to refer you because they know you provide value and will genuinely take care of them.  Giving a referral is a big investment of trust.   But it’s one of the BEST WAYS to capture new leads to capture new clients.

I’m always looking for REFERRAL PARTNERS.

#3  Public Speaking – Group Workshops!   There are many groups, organizations and non-profits who are looking for speakers for their meetings.  I developed three specific workshops for groups who were looking for “Fashion Solutions.”   They were

  • “How to Dress in Today’s Workplace.”
  • “Hot to Declutter your Closet with confidence.”
  • “How to Travel with a 10-piece Wardrobe.”

At these workshops, I would offer prizes and capture new leads.   Sometimes they would lead to Fashion Fundraisers which increased my lead generation in large numbers.

Think about FREE WORKSHOPS in your niche that would benefit organizations.  There is no selling at these workshops, but capturing new leads and building new relationships is golden.

#4   Create a Freebie Lead Magnet.   A lead magnet is a valuable free giveaway for your ideal customer.  You give it away in exchange for their name and email address.  The goal is to make your lead magnet a valuable tool so your ideal clients will love signing up for it.

Amy Porterfield says: “ A Lead magnet sets you up as an authority in your niche and creates the “Givers Gain” – you give something of value to your audience and in return you gain respect, affinity and trust.”

#5  Virtual Summit.   Virtual summits are very popular now.  They are a way to bring together experts in specific fields to share their knowledge, network and connect with potential customers.   Some are live and some a pre-recorded.  The advantage Is, it allows you to reach a large audience from all over the world.

You capture leads with a free giveaway which might be your lead magnet or a one-on-one free session with you. They are a great way to capture leads for your business to attract your ideal client and establish you as an authority in your niche.

I recommend you definitely consider virtual summits as part of your lead generation strategy.   I’m always on the lookout for one myself.

#6  Be a Guest on a podcast.  Again, this is collaborating with others who operate in your niche.  Being a guest on a podcast, you have the opportunity to expand and capture many new leads.

Think of it as adding value to the podcast owner and his/her followers.   To be successful in capturing leads this way, you want to make sure your offers align with your ideal client.

#7  Social Media Content Marketing Content marketing focuses on creating valuable content to attract your ideal client, and ultimately to capture new leads.   It can be useful content like blogs, newsletters, you tube videos, emails and social media posts.  The idea is to drive customers/clients to take action and sign up on your email list.

You have to remember, content marketing, is a long-term strategy because it focuses on building relationships online!  It’s important that you choose the content that aligns with your skills.

  • If you’re a writer, creating a blog would be a great choice.
  • If you prefer to speak or entertain people, maybe start a you tube channel.
  • I recommend to all my clients to have a weekly newsletter.
  • I recommend you choose specific social media platforms that work for you.

The KEY to social media content marketing is to produce high-quality content and be CONSISTENT!   You will find I’m consistent on these three platforms.
