This week, so many people reached out to get in touch with me to know I was safe, because of the terrible tragedy on Maui. This tragic event reached all around the world, and  I loved hearing from so many people from great distances.  I was grateful to hear from so many friends and colleagues.

Many of these are people whose lives I have touched along the way of being in business over the last 30 years and it’s so heart-warming to hear from them when they are concerned about your well-being.  It reminds me of this quote:

Building relationships  and STAYING IN TOUCH  is at the core of every business

We do that with communication in many different ways.   However, If there is one thing that builds strong relationships with your customers, your associates and your friends, it’s about “staying in touch” on a consistent basis.

PERSONAL – CONSISTENT – SYSTEMATIC

In my coaching business, I teach my clients to create their own “Stay in Touch” system.   A system that stays in touch personally, consistently and systematically every month.

It is a combination of personal notes, newsletters, holiday cards, birthday gift certificates and more.

Here are 10 ideas to help you set up your own STAY IN TOUCH system.

#1 Thank you Notes.   These are always top of my list.  It’s important to say “thank you” to people but when they receive a personal thank you in a text, email or note in the mail, you grow a deeper connection.  There are 3 very important times to send thank you notes.

  • To customers after every order placed
  • To new customers who let you add them to your database
  • To people you meet after a special connection from an event or coffee chat.

#2  Personal Handwritten Notecards.  It’s so lovely to receive a handwritten note in the mail in today’s world.  So much of our life is online and it seems the only mail we receive from our mail box are bills, promotional stuff and junk mail.   Taking the time to actually write a note and send it through the mail makes someone feel very special.   I love to have a basket of notecards sitting on my desk to remind me to send a note to someone in the mail every week.

#3  Birthday Files.  A great way to stay in touch is to gather your customer’s birthday dates.  Send them greetings with a birthday card and if you like add a special birthday gift certificate to redeem for your products or services.

#4  Referral Gift Certificates.  Educate your customers about how they can refer you with a special gift certificate.  If customers love your service, they will love  receiving gifts for referring a friend.   Remind your customers about your referral program when you stay in touch with your newsletter and social media posts.

#5  Social Media visibility. Being visible on social media and sharing value in your posts, blogs, and videos, keeps you top of mind for the many customers and followers you have on each of the platforms.  Provide a ton of free VALUE with regular posts and live videos on all things to do with how you work with your clients and the results they receive.

#6  Networking connections.   Networking and meeting new people is one of the best ways to follow through with a stay-in-touch program.  My motto is to attend two networking events every week and continue to expand my database by following up with personal notes and messages to connect again to further the relationship.

#8   Email Newsletter.  One of the BEST ways to stay in touch to engage and connect with customers and associates is having a weekly or bi-weekly email newsletter.  People check their email anywhere at any time, several times a day.  Your newsletters content attract your ideal customers and clients and you’re nurturing your relationship every week

#9  Texting campaign.  I love to stay in touch with my clients sending doses of inspirational texts every week.   I use the platform, Project Broadcast and my goal is to give them solid value in every text.  The beauty of this program is they can opt-out any time, so you know you’re not bothering people.  They genuinely enjoy receiving your messages.
