This week I posted in my Facebook group a question, “What networking group do you belong to?”   To my surprise the answers were,

  • “I don’t belong to any networking group.”
  • “There are no networking groups where I live.”
  • “I can’t afford to belong to a networking group.”

Networking is one of the 7 ways I coach my client to generate new leads in their business.  I find many direct sellers seem to make lead generation a low priority in their business.  In fact, it’s one of the FOUR areas laid out every month in my DIRECT SALES PLANNER system.  If you PLAN your business in these four areas in your business every week, you’ll find your business will prosper.

I didn’t know much about networking until I moved to Denver, Colorado – a city of 3 million people where I didn’t know a soul!   I had to get creative and think out of the box if I was to grow my business.   However, I found Denver to be a very friendly networking city.   I joined 4 groups and volunteered for another…

  • I joined a Chamber of Commerce
  • I joined a woman’s Fashion group (I had a fashion business.)
  • I joined an E-womens networking group
  • I joined a BNI (Business Networking International) group.
  • I volunteered for the Heart Association.

My strategy was to be out of my home TWICE a week meeting people!   This is the ACTION that I took to make connections to grow my business.   And it was these strong connections that led to building strong relationships and friendships that led to building a million-dollar team.

  • At the Chamber of Commerce, I made strong connections with women at their “After Hours Events.” I gave talks about “How to Dress in Today’s work Environment” for their “Women in business group.”
  • I attended every Fashion Group meeting and made strong connections with other women which led to holding many Fashion Show Fundraisers.
  • At the e-women’s networking group, I made strong connections with women who introduced me to others ONLINE in other states around the country.
  • Every week I made my strongest friendships meeting these members every week and sharing my ideal client.
  • Volunteering for the Heart Association, I handed out their literature at a special booth in supermarkets and had conversations with many women I’d never met before.

What CONNECTIONS do you think you would make today in a networking group?

This week I was invited to visit an OPEN HOUSE day for a local BNI Networking group! I now live in a small town (about 15,000) on an island.  At this event there were over 40 people in the room.   Each person had 30 seconds to share a quick story about their business.  I got up and shared mine …

“I help women in business in Direct Sales achieve their goals.  As an international Business Coach, my role is to guide and support them in growing strong and dynamic teams!”

At this event there was a Yoga teacher, a Builder, a Web designer, A Computer guru, a medical doctor, a lawyer, a bookkeeper, an accountant, a farmer, a restaurant owner, a storyteller, a  spiritual coach, an oil person, and more…  My point is there were tons of people to make strong connections and build relationships.

It’s important to remember, we are in the “PEOPLE” business!

The secret sauce is making strong CONNECTIONS!
