Finding the right balance between your family, your exercise, your kids schooling, and maybe even a full-time job, while growing your million-dollar team is ONE thing!

But finding the right balance on how much time to work on your personal business and spend time supporting your team is a ANOTHER thing!

In my coaching practice I work on “Balance” as a continuation of growing and learning.   I recognize it as a personal responsibility to use best practices with systems and strategies that help you achieve the success “you” want.  However, we do use some proven techniques and today I’d like to share THREE of them with you to get started on finding your own “balance.”

#1  Understand the importance of going “Wide.”   If your Direct Sales Business is to prosper, you must understand the importance of the saying “go wide.”  This simply means that you must grow a very strong personal team that you specifically sponsor yourself.  This STRONG personal team is the foundation of everything in being successful in growing a million-dollar team.  When I realized this concept, I created a strategy for myself to pump up three things

  • Identifying potential prospects at every party
  • Following up within 24 hours to set a recruiting conversation appointment
  • Holding at least THREE recruiting conversations every week – yes THREE!

This strategy worked for me because I grew to have the largest personal team in the whole company. And that strong personal team brought in DOUBLE commissions (from our Compensation plan) that increased my income.

#2  Create Team Systems.  Once my personal team grew and I began helping them recruit and grow, we began to develop team leaders.  I found BALANCE wasn’t easy.  How could I keep up with my own personal recruiting when one month our team grew by 47 NEW people!   I realized we were attracting the right people, so I had to find systems so I could keep in touch with everyone, especially those 47 new people! …

We were sponsoring mostly from our parties and that’s when I created the CALENDAR CLUB Team Booking system.   I recognized the value if everyone on the team held a party – even those who just wanted to do ONE PARTY A MONTH and those who wanted to do TEN PARTIES A MONTH.  This system became the SPARK that increased our team sales to tip to the million-dollar level.  The team rallied and loved to be part of the monthly CALENDAR CLUB!

However, the BALANCE wasn’t easy…

#3 Implement the 60/40 rule.     This led to creating my big rule for balance – the 60/40 rule. Now that I had systems in place for the team, finding the BALANCE to keep my personal weekly recruiting conversations and my parties and follow up was still a challenge.   So I began a TIME AUDIT for myself.  Every day I’d write down in my ONE NOTEBOOK system, (another system I teach all my clients) how much time I was spending on personal biz and team biz.   I found that I kept gravitating to help my team.  That’s what we do as mother nurturers, we want to know that our chicks are taken care of before we take care of ourselves.

However, this was not helping me find the BALANCE…

So, after my time audit for two weeks, I realized I had to be very mindful about where I was spending my time.  I loved my team, and I automatically gravitated towards helping them the first thing every morning when I hit my office.  By the end of the day, I realized I hadn’t done any customer follow-up or called hostesses, or planned my personal goals for the month!  These tasks were NOT GETTING done, and it showed in my stats.

I decided that if I still wanted to grow to that million-dollar level, I had to come up with a game plan.  I made a rule to myself and that was I would work 60% of my time on my personal business and 40% of my time on my team business.  So, if I had one hour or a 3-hour block of time, I would split that time into the 60/40 rule.

This was putting the horse before the cart so to speak!  It also meant I was working on the going “wide” system as well as helping my team prosper with the CALENDAR CLUB Team Booking system.

In my Coaching Practice today, I find that so many NEW leaders who step up for the first time get so overwhelmed because they feel so responsible to their new team and they want to be their best supporter.  Then, their personal business wanes and pretty soon the team feels pressure because too much focus is on them and it winds up a no-win situation.

So, there you have THREE things to work on to find that BALANCE between working your personal business and your team business.  Which one will you work on first?  Leave a comment below.
