Let’s be honest—being an entrepreneur in today’s world means we work constantly to battle many distractions.   We have to handle

  • Notifications dinging
  • Interruptions pulling us away
  • Shiny new ideas tempting us every hour

Before we know it, the day’s over, and our to-do list hasn’t moved. (Sound familiar?)

I’ve been there too. You procrastinate. You chase rabbit holes. You mean to work on needle-moving tasks—but somehow time slips away.  (sigh!) When I recommend the Pomodoro Technique to every client I have them take a few minutes to watch my video on how it works.  Check it out here.

I find that this time management method helps you get more done.  When you work in focused 25-minute sprints, followed by a short break you feel like you’re in the flow of getting things done.

Working 25 minute sprints is really easy\and it’s  incredibly effective—especially for entrepreneurs like us in today’s busy world who are juggling multiple roles and responsibilities.

Why it Works

The magic of the Pomodoro Technique lies in its simplicity:

✅ You focus on one task for 25 minutes
✅ Then take a short break to reset
✅ Repeat—until your project is DONE

I find this is the best tool that helps you eliminate distractions, gain momentum, and train your brain to focus.

How I Use Pomodoros (aka “POMS”) in My Business

I even name my pomodoros to stay intentional about what I’m working on:

  • BLOG POMS – writing my weekly newsletter
  • VIDEO POMS – uploading and editing my YouTube content
  • SOCIAL MEDIA POMS – scheduling posts and engagement
  • SUNDAY PLANNING POMS – prepping my week ahead

I set a timer, turn off all notifications, and get to work. No multitasking. No checking email. Just 25 minutes of focused creation.

Why Naming Your POMS Matters

When you name your POMS, you give them purpose. You’re not just “working”—you’re building momentum on specific projects that move your business forward.

My daughter, a teacher, who made the most of her precious summer time, took this to a whole new level.  She named her  POMS things like:

  • CLEANING POMS
  • ORGANIZING POMS
  • CREATIVE POMS (writing, reading, coursework)

Then she created a Google Sheet Pomodoro Log to track how many POMS she completes. Once she hits a certain number, she rewards herself!

Here’s What I know will Happen When You Try It

✨ You’ll finally start that project you’ve been putting off
✨ You’ll feel less scattered and more productive
✨ You’ll get better at planning your time
✨ You’ll see real progress on your goals
✨ You’ll end the day feeling accomplished—not behind

And the best part? You can visually track your progress if you choose to track and log your POMS.  Then reward yourself with something that makes you feel good. This is what makes this technique fun and most of all stay motivated and ignore those distractions.

If you were to name a POM to get a task or project done this week, what would you call it?
